In addition to offering a birthing alternative, we are a Prolacta Bioscience affiliated milk bank. The milk we collect is used by Prolacta Bioscience to make nutritional therapies for very premature infants. Recently, a clinical study was conducted using Prolacta's products in such institutions as Johns Hopkins and Yale. The results were published in the Journal of Pediatrics (www.jpeds.com) and the findings state there is a 2.6 fold reduction in Necrotizing entercolitis (NEC) and a 7.2 fold reduction in surgeries due to NEC when very premature infants are fed a 100% human based diet versus an essentially human milk based diet that also contained cow-milk formula. The products Prolacta Bioscience produces are the only ones on the market that allow for the full nutrition very premature infants require from a 100% human milk source.
