Mother's milk is the ideal nutrition for most infants. It's especially vital for premature, low birth weight and critically-ill infants. In fact, studies show that a diet of breast milk helps decrease incidences of necrotizing enterocolotis, a potentially fatal disease in critically-ill and preterm infants.

Some mothers find it difficult to express breast milk when they are separated from their babies who are being cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Fortunately, mothers who produce more milk than their own baby needs generously donate their milk to help nourish hospitalized infants. By becoming a donor, you will be providing a vital resource to very small preterm infants at Texas Children's Hospital, which houses the nation's largest NICU and cares for nearly 3,000 babies a year.

Texas Children's partners with Prolacta Bioscience to conduct thorough donor testing and to process and pasteurize all donor milk. Prolacta operates a large, pharmaceutical- grade facility that has the capacity and supply to meet Texas Children's needs. At Texas Children's Hospital, donor milk is provided to all babies who need it, regardless of the family's ability to pay.

Tiny Treasures Milk Bank

Breast milk is best for all babies, but premature babies have increased nutritional needs that cannot be met by a mother's own breast milk alone.

By donating to Tiny Treasures Milk Bank, your excess breast milk will allow very low birth weight premature babies the opportunity to benefit from a 100% human milk diet. Milk donated through Tiny Treasures Milk Bank will be used by Prolacta Bioscience® to make human milk nutritional products including a human milk-based fortifier, human milk caloric fortifier, human milk-based premature infant formula, and standardized donor milk for very low birth weight premature babies. All Prolacta products are made from human breast milk.

For every qualified ounce of milk you donate, you will be compensated $1 for your time and effort.
